I really believe that people are getting too hung up on the fact that the Xbox One reveal event not showing too much about gaming. I would like to suggest to the readers a few reasons why that may of been.
The fact is that E3 (one of the biggest gaming conventions) is just around the corner. Xbox are going to share some information on the gaming side of their console at that event and you can expect a lot more about gaming to happen at that point. But the reveal showed mainly television features and other features mainly around voice communication and movement from the Kinect system.
This is for a simple reason. The Xbox team want to be able to be the number one gadget in your front room… many consoles try this and fight to be the only thing you use. Therefore they really had to show what it could do for the non gaming (or casual gamers) outside its stereotypical role as a gaming console.
E3 is the gaming side of things… they did not want to waste all of their gaming technology news at the reveal when that was about getting the television and sport people interested. In my opinion that was a very smart move.
So, the reveal was all about showing what it can do for others. E3 will show us about what it can do for gaming. Which in all honestly makes sense to me more so than them giving constant gaming news and then having nothing but repeats for E3. Finally, what continues to surprise me is that when the PS4 reveal hit the internet everyone laughed at what that showed us however now that the Xbox one reveal has come around everyone has changed their opinion and now love what Sony had to show us.
The point is non of the focus of these reveals were on the gaming side of thing. Instead we were shown everything else to prepare for more information at actual gaming events. So everyone who is worrying about Xbox moving away from the gaming side, don’t worry… they were just preparing for E3 and getting the other features that would not of fit in E3 out of the way.
