Ubisoft today announced that the companion apps to its upcoming games will not necessarily need a purchase of the game to be used. Their CEO, Yves Guillemot, said that there will be ‘seamless single player, co-op and multiplayer that will bring in new players that, today, do not dare try traditional multiplayer or co-op modes’. For example, one of the included games, The Division, allows tablet and smartphone users to view, and interact with, the game in real time. It is important that there is ‘low barrier entry; as so players can join in without needing to be in the same location or own the retail game, just to have the app. While this may be seen as a good thing from their point of view, many players will now be wary of the ease of access for trolls to their single player game.
Ubisoft’s upcoming games are The Crew, The Division, and Watch Dogs
