iMessage to blame for decline in US text messaging

iMessage and other internet based messaging systems are being blamed for the first ever drop in text messaging in years, as consumers find free and cheap ways for getting in contact with one and another.

Last month users average 696 texts per month, but this is down to 678 per month. The decline is small, but when you think about how many cell-phones and people there are in America, it begins to be a large figure.

Depending on your wireless plan and carrier, it can be much cheaper to use messengers like iMessage via cellular data and Wi-Fi.

It will be interesting to see if this will turn into a trend, or is just a small dip which will only last this month.
