Google have planned to offered Apple the return of Google maps for iOS6 after the app was removed earlier this year when Apple said they were making their own version. However Apple had a lot of issues with the app that was launched when iOS6 came out and have since received a lot of complaints.
Google maps was always a great feature and I am not sure why exactly Google are doing this. It could be to prove that they are better than Apple, it could be to capitalize on the market however it will give Apple time to revisit there app and make sure it is working to standards. Google are still developing this app but it is expected that it will offer the same experience as the old Google Maps but just updated for iOS6.
However Nokia decided to make a blog post yesterday to brag about their maps system saying it was much better than both Google Maps and Apple Maps. This is what they had to say:
Unlike our competitors, which are financing their location assets with advertising or licensing mapping content from third parties, we completely own, build and distribute mapping content, platform and apps,” the company wrote. “In other words, we truly understand that maps and location-based apps must be accurate, provide the best quality and be accessible basically anywhere. That’s been standard practice at Nokia for the past six years, and we also understand that ‘pretty’ isn’t enough.
Of course this may be true however with the way Nokia have been over recent years and there decline in the market. I do not think that Google or Apple will care what Nokia’s map system is like.
